Making a Mess with Papers – Rift War Chronicles: Muspelheim Book 2 Edition

Transcript

Hey everyone! After months of hard work, late nights, and endless editing, The Shackles of a Mountain Lord is finally finished and out in the world. Recently, I watched a video made by Brandon Sanderson’s team at Dragonsteel, “Making a Mess with Papers,” where they tossed the final draft of the latest Stormlight book down the stairs. After one of their kids accidentally checked a draft down the stairs years ago, they decided to make it a tradition.

So as a fun celebration of my own, I thought why not try something similar with my kids? We’re going to throw the final draft of Shackles up in the air, let the pages fly, and celebrate the end of this long journey. Let’s go make a mess!

Inspiration

I remember seeing one of the earlier versions of this video below when Words of Radiance or Oathbringer came out. I was reminded of those when I saw this video a few weeks ago.

You can also read about it here.

Writing a book is such a huge endeavor (at least for me!), and so I thought it would be fun to do something similar to this as a sort of cathartic release. It was a lot of fun!

I’m hoping to continue the tradition of making a mess with the final drafts of all my books.
