My Writing Companions

Now that all my kids are in school, I have all the time in the world to write! Right? Well, ok, maybe not quite. But the house is blessedly quiet for a few hours a day now.

I’m not alone, though. Like a witch with her animal familiars, I have a few critters that keep me company while I’m beating my head up against a manuscript.

This is Poledra, my 5 year old German Shepherd Husky mix. She’s one of the laziest dogs I’ve ever known. Most of the time, she’s my professional foot warmer and snuggler.

This is Echo the parakeet. Technically he’s my daughter’s birdie, but he hangs out with me during the day while she’s at school. He loves singing along to my music and the piano, and is addicted to watching movies.

And lastly, here’s Zmeya, the baby cornsnake. He sleeps all day under his water dish, but if I’m up late writing, he comes out to bask and stare at me.
